International Women’s Day Special Verulam Sport

FIRST BROADCAST : March 9, 2019 3:00 pm

Another action packed Verulam Sport from 3pm-6pm on Saturday 9th March.

It's the day after International Women's Day and Verulam Sport are highlighting some of our great female sporting stars. Kat Ratnapala Head Coach and Director of Netball of local Netball Super League team Saracens Mavericks describes their mesmeric form. High scoring and league climbing the Mav's are currently second in the Vitality Super League. Plus, Saracens and England Women's Rugby star Sarah McKenna reviews the Red Roses storming 9 try rout of Wales and with their Grand Slam dreams intact she previews this weekends clash against the second placed Italians.

We also introduce one of the greatest UK Athletes of all time. Sally Gunnell looks back fondly on a career which saw her become the only woman and one of an elite club of just five GB Athletes all time to claim Gold medals at Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth games. An interview not to be missed.

Watford roared back to winning ways last week against Leicester but face defending Champions Manchester City who are top of the League and haven't conceded a goal in their last four games. Once again we are lucky to be joined live on the phone by the Hornets Head of Communications Richard Walker. Tweet in your questions to @verulamsport and they could well be featured.

We always feature the fortunes of St Albans City Football Club and Saints fans will still be dreaming of a Playoff run come the end of the season. But after dropping to 11th in the Vanarama League South they will need to get back to winning ways on Saturday. The 'Voice of the Saints' Ian Rogers will describe all the action from their home clash against Dulwich Hamlet.

In local Rugby the Old Albanians couldn't build on their first win of 2019; losing limply on the long road trip to Redruth last time out. Brian Quin reports from Woollams Park with the home faithful hoping for a positive result against Clifton.

Plus, we welcome back London Colney's Ollie 'Punch Perfect' Pattison who will tell us what's next after another impressive win in his unbeaten professional boxing career. As if that's not enough we review Saracens Gallagher Rugby Premiership clash against Bath with the inimitable Sarah Hawkins.

All this and so much more, Verulam Sport with Tony Rice and Json McKenna 3-6pm 92.6 FM and online on www.radioverulam.com
