It’s not often we get nominated for an award, so we’re delighted to be up for two!

Back in November 2016, the city of St Albans went FA Cup crazy as The Saints were drawn at home to League Division 2 team Carlisle in the first round proper of the FA Cup.

A sell-out crowd watched as St Albans City FC more than held their own, the final 3-5 scoreline by no means humbling our team’s performance even though we didn’t progress.

Radio Verulam pulled out all the stops to cover the game, sending our radio car and equipment to Clarence Park to broadcast the match live, and with a skilled team of reporters and engineers produced a memorable and exciting set of reports and interviews. We had listeners tuning in online from as far away as Norway and Australia, commenting during the game.

Our excellent coverage has resulted in us being shortlisted for two Community Radio Awards, the winners being announced at a ceremony in Bristol on September 23rd.Picked from over 350 entries, the show is up for ‘Live Event or Outside Broadcast of the Year’ and ‘Sports Show of The Year’. You can listen to some of the highlights in this podcast.

The team consisted of:
Paul Andersson – Engineer
Jonny Seabrook – Presenter and Producer
Kerry Cobb – Crowd reporter
Ian Rogers – Reporter
Matt Jones – Studio Engineer
Paul Hutton – Commentator

Fingers crossed we win at least one of the awards!

Our thanks to the whole team for delivering a very special broadcast, and in particular to Jonny Seabrook for producing the event and submitting our entry to the Awards committee.
