I hope you and your families are well and safe. It is a really difficult time for all of us, whether we are working hard in a key role, returning to work and feeling uncertain about what is going to happen next or staying at home and trying to adapt to everything that means. Don't forget, we do spend a lot of our time talking at people (presenting) but we are probably good listeners too so keep in touch with your fellow volunteers.
The next group opportunity to do that is next Wednesday evening (20th) at 8pm on Google Meets. Here is the link : https://meet.google.com/bos-vxmd-prv
News on last week's brilliant quiz....we raised £335 for us and the same for St Albans and Hertsmere Womens Refuge. Well done to the quiz team. I'm keen for us to build on this and we're in discussion with one national charity to see if we can help them; Dereck and Ken are working on a music quiz too. The success of the quiz means that we are getting close to this month's target for money raised through fundraising and donations. We're going to need to keep up this pace now through the rest of the year at least.
Total raised so far since our campaign began is just over £5,800 and this needs to go up by around £350-450 per month. See www.gofundme.com/radioverulam
Big plans afoot and hats off to Jason McKenna for his idea of a virtual garden show. More to come on this. Jason needs help and we'll be asking for specific help on tasks in the next week or so; please put your hand up when asked if you think you can help. So far, Jason has received lots of "great idea" comments, but no actual offers to help. Money doesn't come in from encouragement alone.
Team meetings are underway and a common question is "when can we be back in the studios?". We've looked at the government's guidance for workplaces and it is clear that we can't meet the guidelines and kep volunteers safe, so it is unlikely we are going to be opening the studios any time soon. The Board will consider this further in due course but this is going to be a long road. Andy is prioritising some additions to the voicetracking team and if you are on the priority list you will have received an email.
Finally, a message from our volunteer manager, Elly:
Team meetings are underway, and a few have taken place, but still a few more to go. Thank you so much for those who have (or who are) organising them, and those attending. I will collate the messages coming out of these meetings and share them with the board, so any themes can be addressed in the weekly updates, or the Zoom catch ups that Nick has put in the calendar (next one Wednesday 20 May - 8pm).
The idea of the meetings is to check in with ALL Radio Verulam volunteers, to see how everyone is doing and also see whether anyone is interested and has time to get involved in other things. There are a number of areas where we need more support so using these meetings to talk through, is very helpful. Also, you get to meet/talk to one of the RV directors and find out what’s going on first hand - what’s not to like about that!
If anyone hasn’t been able to attend a meeting, please get in touch with me (email@example.com) and I’ll set up a further meeting.
We will shortly be sending out a skills form, to try and identify other skills that volunteers have, and of course time that you may have available, so would be grateful if everyone could complete when it comes. (If you have skills, but no additional time to spare at the moment - that’s fine - but would be good to know).
Thank you again for your ongoing commitment to the radio.
