Operations Manager Update #9

Hi Everyone,

With the spring bank holiday coming up this Monday, that can only mean one thing … the Herts County Show! It’s the biggest family day out in the Hertfordshire County and runs on both Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May. Clive, who is also our Outside Broadcast manager will be managing the event alongside a number of our volunteers including the technical team: Dave Neal, Peter Glover, Troy Williams, Nick Hazell and Hannah Cowell. On the producing, presenting and reporting front we have Dave Creasey, Mark Laughlan, Amy Radford, Michael Praide, Dave Adcock, Sarah Glover, Helen Adams and Ross Wilson. Ren will provide social media support and Denise is looking after the sales and advertising side. Good luck to the whole team and many thanks for being part of this fantastic event for Radio Verulam.

– Volunteering Manager: After interviewing a number of applicants and looking at how we manage volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training and assessment, we have made a decision to keep the volunteer manager role as part of my responsibility as the Operations manager. As you can imagine, with 100 volunteers now, it is a significant undertaking! Over the next few months, I will be looking at these processes in more detail and creating short-term projects to streamline them. There will be opportunities to help me in volunteer coordinator roles, with full training and support provided. As these roles come up, I will put them in this weekly email. They will be a great way to gain experience in volunteer management and also, help the station provide the best outcomes for volunteers as we move into bigger and brighter ventures!

Marketing Manager: Our recruitment campaign for a marketing manager has now ended and I’d like to introduce Sara Garcia-Moran, who will be helping us in this area. This means our former marketing manager, Dave Neal, will hand over all things marketing to Sara, who’ll be working alongside Denise, Ren and Andy. Sara is currently getting familiar with how the station works, who does what, all the events coming up and what we need to be focusing on. Her projects will include looking at: The Film Festival, The Roman Festival, our brand and target audience and creating a marketing plan for the next 3-6 months.

– Presenter training: As part of our ongoing commitment to on-air presenter training, in the next few weeks we will be running one-on-one presenter training sessions with an external radio industry professional. This will be for all daytime presenters (including weekday and weekend). I’ll be sending out an email to you all in the next couple of days to confirm dates and times are you are available. I’m really excited about this, as the trainer has not only worked with some of the biggest names in radio but continues to support best practice for community radio stations as well.
