Big thanks to the team that helped out with the Aylett’s Apple Day on Saturday: Clive, Dave Adcock, Ed, Peter Glover, Darrell, Amanda, Zara, Kerry, Mandy and Ren. The feedback from Aylett’s is that many local businesses and customers came to support the event, with all the social media activity really build a following within the local community. Liz Alexander personally said:
The appearance of Mr Apple and Radio Verulam really helps build the atmosphere and gets people talking which I know we all agree is a great thing for us all. We have received numerous comments and compliments from customers and staff alike saying what a great atmosphere it was and that there was something for the whole family.
Congrats to you all, really positive to hear how our local involvement makes a difference.
Community Radio: Now & Next day and Community Radio Awards
This Saturday, Clive, Tony Rice and I are headed to Wales for the Community Radio Awards. Clive and I will be attending the Now & Next day, which is a collaboration between The Radio Hub, the Local Radio Alliance and Barry’s local community radio station Bro Radio 98.1FM.
We’ll be hearing from Love Andover radio (about branding), Swindon 105.5 FM, how community stations are partnering with their local councils, an update on the progress of DAB – following this week’s approval of the Small-scale Radio Multiplex & Community Digital Radio Order 2019 being approved (through the Commons) and no doubt much more.
Radio Verulam are in contention for two Community Radio awards: Innovation Award (website) and Sports Show of the Year (Verulam Sports) – watch this space!
If you present, produce or do pre-records, you ALWAYS need to book the studio to do so.
- Log into RV Inside
- Under the Operations tab – click Bookings
- Choose Book Studio Time
- Select the relevant day, timeframe and studio (either A or B)
- Complete the form, including your name and reason
- Check your email for a booking confirmation
Please do this EVERY time you need a studio. If you are involved in a regular programme, you can do repeat bookings. I will be including this update in the weekly comms ongoing. We all need to ensure we are being respectful of live programmes and also, engineering requirements (engineering team need to know who is in the studios and when).
This is also a significant part of health & safety for Radio Verulam. A vast majority of community stations have sign-in sheets (for volunteers and guests) and at best, this electronic studio management system logs activity. In the near future, we may need to include a sign-in book to ensure we are logging volunteer hours correctly for Ofcom recording purposes.
Interviews process and booking guests
At present, request for interviews come through the Radio Verulam studio inbox, contact us page on the website, and direct to presenters or producers across talks programmes. Since September, Troy Williams has been helping field enquiries from the studio inbox and contact us. This has been communicated to all relevant presenters & producers.
We are in the process of streamlining how we book and manage interviews. If Troy has been in contact with you over the last couple of months, please do share your interviews calendars or booking systems with him. Many people have not responded, and we are keen to make this a better process for everyone.
You can reach him directly – email@example.com
I will have more of an update on this in the next couple of weeks.
Audio Clips of interviews
Do you know how to audio clip your interview content?
Next week, I will be sharing a simple step-by-step guide on how to do so.
Ideally, if you present a speech show, this is part of your on-air production.
The clip is shared through social media and also, guests can purchase this content.
We have a number of volunteer roles listed on the website. If you know anyone that will make a lively breakfast presenter, organised volunteer coordinator or, is passionate about helping third sector organisations (our community circle project), you can send them links to specific volunteer vacancies.
As always, feel free to drop me a line with any feedback or suggestions: firstname.lastname@example.org
