A Talk and lecture with a Russian “Stalingrad” Historian - President of the Battle of Stalingrad Foundation, Dmitry Belov, Ph.D. The event will be held in the Assembly Room of the Museum on Monday March 2nd at 6pm.

The Battle of Stalingrad was the largest confrontation of World War II in which Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of Southern Russia. The hard-fought Russian victory was also the turning point of WW2.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2 (and the 77th anniversary of the end of the battle of Stalingrad) the Foundation presents a unique talk to highlight the influence this battle had on the people of Great Britain and, in particular, on the towns and villages surrounding St Albans.

The scale of Russia’s sacrifice in WW2 is staggering with an estimated 26 million lives lost. The Battle of Stalingrad cost over 1,100,000 Red Army and civilian casualties alone.

With the armies of the Third Reich also suffering three-quarters of their wartime losses while fighting Russia.

There is no doubt that Russia was a vital ally to Great Britain in World War II.
