Sir Edward Elgar’s passionate, haunting and profoundly sad Cello Concerto is the featured work in St Albans Symphony Orchestra’s in St Saviour’s Church on Saturday 7 March (7.30pm). Soloist Matthew Sharp will be making a welcome return appearance following a performance in October 2018 of Shostakovich's First Cello Concerto that one critic hailed as 'inspirational'.
Two other English masterpieces from the 20th century complete the programme, conducted by Tom Hammond. Walton's pulsating First Symphony and his popular march Crown Imperial, written for the coronation of George VI.
