As part of our Creative Ecosystem, The Culture Trust Luton invites artists engaged in the Hat District to talk about their practice and their connection to the emerging Cultural Quarter.
Wed 30 Oct: Shaun Armstrong
Shaun Armstrong is the official documentary photographer for The Culture Trust’s Hat District capital project. His role is to artistically observe and capture the changing state of the factory spaces, from abandoned and neglected to refurbished and vibrant ecosystem and all the stages in between.Shaun will be discussing his varied career journey and how that shapes and informs both his artistic and commercial work and personal development.
Wed 7 Nov: Tom Pearman
Tom Pearman is a masters graduate from the Royal College of Art. The majority of Pearman’s work is commissioned-based public art exploring architecture, design and creative, collaborative approaches to improving our built environment. He has successfully completed several large-scale public art projects.
Wed 27 Nov: Abi Spendlove
Abi is the Bursary Artist at The Hat Factory Arts Centre. She has a BA (Hons) from Central Saint Martins and an MA in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire. Her practice explores objects, places and elements that are in-between. Gaps in language, hidden places, decaying objects. Her work aims to capture that which is shifting from multiple perspectives, using a variety of media including drawing, video, photography and installation. Water, light, time and entropy are themes that recur and overlap.
Audience members are asked to arrive by 5:30pm for talks and are invited to continue conversations in the café with the artists afterwards until 7.30pm.
