On 13 November, our speaker will be displaying material from his France collection covering the fifty years from 1929 to 1979.
All the material will be presented in the context of the social and political events of the time and topics covered will include the controversial 1929 Joan of Arc and 1931 Fachi Woman issues, the iconic Marianne designs and the stunning multi-coloured printings of the 1960s.
The main focus though will be on World War 2 with a display of postal history recording events in France from the armistice, through the occupation and up to its Liberation.
The venue is the Society’s regular meeting place – the School Room, St Mary’s Church, Childwickbury AL3 6JJ (off A1081 St. Albans – Harpenden Road).
