Folk at the Maltings welcomes North Herts based duo with a wider reputation, Leyla Burrows and Paul Scourfield, singer songwriter Craig Joiner and New Roots finalist Molly Pipe at a concert on Friday March 6 at 8pm at the Maltings Arts Theatre, The Maltings, St Albans AL1 3HL.
Leyla and Paul began performing together in 2016, combining voices, melodeon and guitar. Paul brings his experience of traditional tunes and songs and Leyla brings a contemporary twist to the mix. Together they perform their interpretations of both traditional and contemporary songs, as well as some of their own material.
Leyla Burrows is a classically trained singer but more often performs folk, jazz and pop material. She trained as a composer at Huddersfield University and uses her skills to teach children how to write and record their own music. She is involved in community music projects in and around Bedford, including the annual Big Community Sing.
Paul Scourfield is a stylish melodeon player and singer, performing material mainly from the English tradition. He has appeared at major festivals including Sidmouth, Whitby, Warwick, and Towersey, as well as folk clubs around the country. As well as concert work he performs with innovative ceilidh band Chalktown.
Craig Joiner has been a professional musician for over 25 years and has written songs that have been recorded by the likes of Heart, Bonnie Tyler, Eddie Money and Steps. His songs have been used in major Hollywood movies such as ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’, ‘102 Dalmatians’ and ‘Jack Reacher’. this is the first ever Craig Joiner solo album.
In recent years Craig has been a stalwart of the Folk Club scene where he has gained an impressive following and where he honed the songs for his long awaited solo debut album ‘Art of Landing’.
New Roots finalist Molly Pipe is an experienced acapella singer with a sideline in fiddle and French horn. She has a wealth of performance experience, sometimes in quite unusual settings. Her music highlights include winning the 2017 Future of Young Folk award, playing Bromyard, Sidmouth and Warwick Festivals. As an actor, she has toured as an actor-musician in ‘Tarzanne’ with Interplay Theatre and played Mia Grundy in The Archers.
